On 20 September, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Akhsar Dzhioev hosted a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Russian Federation Bashar al-Jaafari, who arrived in Tskhinval as the head of a delegation to celebrate the 34th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of South Ossetia.
The meeting was attended by Nofal Kalthoum, official of the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in the Russian Federation, and Aleksey Sanakoev, Head of the Department for Cooperation with Foreign Missions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia.
Akhsar Dzhioev welcomed the guests and expressed gratitude for the visit on such a significant occasion for the people of South Ossetia.
In his turn, Bashar al-Jaafari congratulated Akhsar Dzhioev on the occasion and wished peace and prosperity to the South Ossetian people.
During the meeting the parties discussed issues of cooperation between Tskhinval and Damascus at various levels, reaffirmed the proximity of the positions on key regional and global issues and noted that South Ossetia and Syria are committed to the fundamental principles of international law.
During the conversation they also expressed mutual willingness to further strengthen the traditionally friendly South Ossetian-Syrian relations.
