Comment by a representative of the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry on the statement by Georgian Prime Minister I. Kobakhidze

МИД Южной Осетии

In an interview with a Georgian channel Imedi TV, the Prime Minister of Georgia I. Kobakhidze, commenting on the topic of relations with Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the context of restoring Georgia’s territorial integrity, stated that this “will become a reality if Tbilisi shows patience and we are guided by that patience in our policy.”

It is obvious that in the light of the ongoing protest actions bythe Georgian opposition since last autumn, speculation has beenincreasing on the restoration of the so-called territorial integrity of Georgia.

For South Ossetia, the theses and ideas presented by the official Tbilisi regarding the possibilities of resolving relations are unacceptable. Tskhinval has repeatedly voiced its position, which is based on the choice of the people of South Ossetia, enshrined in the Constitution of the State. The lack of progress in regards to the issue of security guarantees for South Ossetia and Abkhazia in framework of the International Discussions, coupled with such statements, does not contribute to stability in the region.

South Ossetia strives to build an independent state, does not intend to change the vector of its development and the aspiration to comprehensively strengthen relations with the guarantor of its security - the Russian Federation.
