Today, a significant holiday, the Constitution Day is celebrated in South Ossetia.
On April 8, 2001, following the results of the all-national referendum, a new Constitution was adopted in the Republic of South Ossetia. The people of South Ossetia have made their choice in favor of an independent democratic future of the state and have determined the strategic vector of the state’s development for many years.
The adoption of the Constitution has become one of the most important stages of the constitutional and legal development of the Republic of South Ossetia. The main document of the country, based on national and international principles and civilized values of the modern world, have concentrated the legal, political and ideological features of the state and society, have clearly defined the priorities of state development and have stipulated guarantees of human rights and freedoms, ensuring law and order, strengthening civil harmony and stability.
The latest 24 years in the history of modern South Ossetia have been the time of implementation of strategic objectives onensuring the supremacy of the Constitution and laws of the state. In this context, special attention was paid to the issues of strengthening constitutional legality, creating the necessary conditions for the sustainable development of the state, maintaining internal political stability and consolidating thesociety.
Today, the Republic of South Ossetia strives for steady implementation of the fundamental provisions of the Constitution, for creation of the necessary regulatory framework and political environment for their implementation, for giving these provisions full content and for fruitful use of open wide opportunities for renewal of social and political, economic and cultural life of the state.
