President of the Republic of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev hosted a working meeting with the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Akhsar Dzhioev

On April 7, President of the Republic of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev held a working visit with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Akhsar Dzhioev. 

The Foreign Minister reported on the work that had been done and the main aspects of current activities. 

Cooperation with the Russian Federation was among the key agenda points of the conversation.

In particular, the issue of extending the deadline for the procedure of obtaining driver’s licenses of the Russian Federation for citizens of South Ossetia who also have Russian citizenship was discussed. ⠀

The President noted that he had raised the issue during a meeting with the First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office of Russia Sergey Kiriyenko. According to the Head of State, a preliminary agreement was reached to extend the deadline for the procedure of obtaining driver’s licenses for citizens of South Ossetia.

Special attention was drawn to the situation with the new rules for foreign citizens crossing the border with the Russian Federation.

According to Akhsar Dzhioev, South Ossetia has beendiscussing with the Russian side the possibility of simplifying the procedure of entering Russia for residents of the Republic who do not have Russian citizenship. ⠀

According to the new regulations, starting from June 30, 2025, an experiment is being conducted at border checkpoints in the Russian Federation, according to which all foreign citizens entering Russia will be required to undergo fingerprint and photograph capture. In this regard, South Ossetia sent an official note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation with an appeal to exclude the Republic from the list of countries subject to these norms, by analogy with the Republic of Belarus.

“A dialogue is underway with Russian colleagues at various levels, including the Presidential Administration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Russian side has been working on the issue and we can cautiously be optimistic about the solution of the problem,” said Akhsar Dzhioev, having addedthat the issue had been complex and had affected many aspects.

The Minister emphasized, that nevertheless, the work on thatissue continues.  

At the end of the meeting Alan Gagloev stressed the importance of continuing a constructive dialogue with colleagues from the Russian Federation and instructed the Foreign Ministry to keep these issues under special control.
