On March 18, a press conference of Akhsar Dzhioev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, was held in the press center of the State Committee for Information and Press.
The press conference was mainly dedicated to the 9th anniversary of signing the Treaty between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation on Alliance and Integration.
The Minister emphasized that the 9 years that have passed since the signing the Treaty confirmed its strategic importance for the bilateral relations. The status of an ally of the Russian Federation, stipulated by the Treaty, in line with the formation of a joint defense area, interaction of law enforcement bodies, coordinated foreign policy, assistance in social and economic development and other spheres, provide maximum possible guarantees for state sovereignty and security of the Republic of South Ossetia, promote strengthening its international positions, recognition of the independence and the perspectives of a sustainable social and economic development.
Akhsar Dzhioev marked that in accordance with the Treaty, South Ossetia and Russia have a shared area of security, which means that an assault on South Ossetia will be considered as an attack on Russia. Thus, in conditions of contemporary challenges and threats as well as the rapidly changing situation in the sphere of international security, the document becomes especially relevant.
