Vitaly Ignatiev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, sent a note to Akhsar Dzhioev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Georgian military aggression against the Republic of South Ossetia.
The note, in particular, reads:
“On this day, fifteen years ago, Georgian troops treacherously invaded the territory of South Ossetia, unleashing an armed conflict. The hostilities led to a humanitarian catastrophe and resulted in numerous civilian casualties and large-scale destruction of infrastructure.
Only thanks to the cohesion and heroism of the South Ossetian people, as well as the help of the Russian armed forces, it became possible to stop the Georgian aggression. The subsequent recognition of the South Ossetian statehood by Russia became one of the most significant stages in the history of the Republic of South Ossetia.
The tragedy did not spare any South Ossetian family, having left unhealing wounds in their hearts. On this day, the Pridnestrovians together with the people of South Ossetia bow their heads in memory of the fallen, paying tribute to the defenders of the Republic”.
