South Ossetia celebrates the Peacekeeper’s Day.

On July 14, 1992, on the basis of the Agreement on the principles of the settlement of the Georgian -Ossetian conflict, signed by heads of Russia, Georgia, North Ossetia and South Ossetia on June 24, 1992, the Trilateral Peacekeeping Force was introduced into the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia.

For 16 years, the unique peacekeeping operation has been carried out, and this military contingent, consisting of Russian, Ossetian and Georgian battalions, was the most reliable guarantor of a ceasefire, and effective factor in maintaining peace and stability in the tense situation of unstable truce.

On August 8, 2008, the location of the peacekeeper’s battalion in Tskhinval was the first to be attacked by the Georgian battalion of peacekeepers, who took up arms against their colleagues.

Russian and Ossetian peacekeepers fulfilled their mission to the end.

The date of the beginning of the Peacekeeping operation will forever remain in the grateful memory of the people of South Ossetia as a symbol of peace and security after many years of hard trials and irreparable losses.

Memorial services for the fallen peacekeeping heroes have been held today in churches of the Republic.

A flower-laying ceremony was held at the Stele in memory of soldiers and officers of the peacekeeping forces.

The Foreign Minister of the Republic of South Ossetia A. M. Dzhioev and employees of the Ministry took part in the ceremony.
