“May 9 is a sacred day in our common history. This is the day of the enduring glory, the military and civil valor, the fortitude of multinational Soviet people, who stood shoulder to shoulder in the decisive struggle against fascism.
It is the duty of each of us to preserve and cherish the historical memory of the Great Feat, to be worthy descendants of the heroic generation who bravely fought at the front and selflessly forged victory in the rear in the name of peace, justice and life itself.
I am convinced that true love for the Motherland, courage and the high sense of responsibility of the Liberating Soldiers will always be unconditional examples and guides for new generations of defenders of the Motherland”.
The message from Sergey Lavrov, in particular, reads:
“May 9 is a symbol of exemplary resilience and courage of the Soviet people, who won a victory in the struggle for a peaceful, free and safe future. On this day we cherish the memory of warriors and home front workers, who selflessly and tirelessly forged victory.
