Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia apropos of the statement of NATO-Georgia commission

On April 15, 2011 at the session of NATO-Georgia commission in Berlin was adopted common statement expressing support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and necessity of international monitoring at its territory “including South Ossetia and Abkhazia”.

Ministers of NATO member states perverts all the existing facts and creates “own reality” in their statement. But it is necessary to stem from the one which objectively exists. That tells not only about the lack of knowledge of the situation in place, but that they are not learning lessons from the August 2008 aggression of Georgia against South Ossetia. Today it is very important to avoid the same old story when the ill-considered backing of Georgian leadership by Alliance led to the tragedy of 2008.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia claims once again that South Ossetia unrelated to the territory of Georgia. Already for 20 years South Ossetia is an independent and self-reliant Republic and beginning from 2008 – recognized state. It is impossible to deny this objective reality and sooner or later everyone has to recognize that.

As for the cynic accusations of Russia in “occupation”, it is Russia that determined an armed invasion of Georgia to South Ossetia and saved dozens of thousands people and Russian troops deployed at the territory of South Ossetia on the bases of appropriate bilateral agreements.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia call attention of NATO states to the fact that their support of Georgian government in its territorial pretensions is not contributive to peace and stability in Southern Caucasus.
