Information of RSO Foreign Ministry in connection with the 20-th anniversary of Ered tragedy

On 18 of March 2011 in the Republic of South Ossetia passed a memorable events dedicated to 20-th anniversary of chocking tragedy happened in the vicinity of Ered village.

Exactly twenty years ago Georgian neofascists committed one of the most beastly acts of genocide against the people of South Ossetia. On 18 of March 1991 Georgian armed formations not far from Ered village detained “Ural” vehicle and debarked 25 Ossetians passing through the then controlled by Georgian armed formations territory. Women and children were released but 12 men after the beastly tortures were buried alive and the landfill site was leveled by bulldozer.

Notwithstanding the numerous appeals of South Ossetia the culprits of this crime were never punished.

In this respect raises bewilderment the stand of international organizations and some states which despite the nude facts in the history of Georgian-Ossetian conflict dose not condemn the crimes of Georgian leadership. Moreover, exactly the connivance of the international community and certitude of Georgian leaders in impunity in their crimes made possible the tragedy of August 2008. Although in the report of independent EU commission on study of facts of August 2008 Georgia was straightforwardly called an aggressor, some states tries to reveal Georgia in the capacity of victim as before and the territories of South Ossetia and Abkhazia absolutely groundlessly qualify as “occupied”.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia once again calls for the international community in the name of peace and stability at the Caucasus objectively evaluate the criminal actions of Georgian leadership.
