Question: There is information on ‘Wikileakes’ site confirming that it was President of Georgia M. Saakashvily who unleashed hostilities in August 2008. But at the same time the authorities of Georgia keep on accusing Russia of military aggression against Georgia and consider South Ossetia to be an occupied territory. Your commentary.
Answer: We regret to ascertain again that Georgia keeps on carrying naked rhetoric about military aggression of Russia which allegedly turned up. Such statements are fully impregnated with lie and hypocrisy, but nevertheless most of the world countries attend to them. It draws our incomprehension all the more so in the light of the information which has been put on the notorious site ‘Wikileaks’. Except other things it tells about the intelligence which was sent from American Embassies to US Department of State. From this intelligence it is clearly understood that it was Georgia who unleashed the hostilities. Thanks to this site people in the west could know the real facts about the August of 2008. Though, the political situation has not changed much. Georgia continues to get away from signing the non- use of force agreement with the Republic of South Ossetia.
Moreover, on the threshold of the next round of Geneva discussions Georgian representatives expressed their willingness to sign such agreement not with us but with Russia, which didn`t assault anybody, and as a matter of fact, is not a party in the conflict. Georgia continues to exert pressure.
We observe the frequent usage of the term ‘occupied territories’ regarding our country under the influence of Georgia and its allies. Such formulations can be found even in the resolutions of NATO. We declare that it is unacceptable. We remind the whole world that in the August of 2008 the aggressor was Georgia. The Russian Federation saved people of South Ossetia from extermination, and military forces located on the territory of the country stay here according to the international agreements between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation.
Our territory is fully under the control of South Ossetia authorities; occupation is out of the question. On the contrary, today the Republic leads a peaceful life, and it is developing and being reconstructed after the Georgian aggression. We face the future with optimism and we are firmed to consolidate our statehood.
