Press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

Working meeting of South Ossetia delegation at the GID, headed by Murat Dzhioev, the Acting Foreign Minister and the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia on post-conflict settlement, and the Co-Chairs of the Discussions, representing the EU, the OSCE and the UN, who arrived to the Republic in anticipation of a regular round of the Discussions, took place in Tskhinval on May 16.

The agenda of the coming round scheduled for June 20-21, including the key objective of the Discussions – elaboration of a bilateral legally binding agreement between Georgia and South Ossetia on non-use of force, was discussed through the meeting.

Special attention was drawn to current security situation at the border between South Ossetia and Georgia due to the fact that there are cases of violation of the border by citizens of Georgia, and these detentions are presented by Georgian authorities as “apprehensions” and “human rights violation”.

South Ossetiaт party underlined that wasn't true and was the result of the unwillingness of Georgian party to do outreach work with population of the territories located at South Ossetian frontier from Georgian side, concerning the frontier line running, and the result of refusal of Georgian party to get to cooperation in border delimitation process.

The participants noted the positive outcome of the IPRM work which is an essential element of stability and security in the region.

South Ossetian participants drew attention of the Co-Chairs to the stepped-up cases when Georgian authorities try to create unseemly images of South Ossetia and Abkhazia and succeed in international isolation of the states, using international stages, to which South Ossetia and Abkhazia have no access, for their political goals and propaganda.

The participants noted that European agencies, considering South Ossetia from the perspectives of Georgian positions, which are rather remote from real care of human rights, are drawing absolutely groundless and completely false conclusions, that in no way promote constructive dialogue and at the end of the day hinder positive results within the Geneva Discussions.

Special attention was drawn to humanitarian issues and especially to problems of missing South Ossetia citizens’ search.

Anatoliy Bibilov, the President of the Republic of South Ossetia hosted a meeting with the Co-Chairs on the same day.

Later the Co-Chairs went on an excursion to the Tirskiy monastery, located in Tskhinval region of the Republic.
