Festivities dedicated to the 8th Anniversary of recognition of South Ossetia’s Independence by the Russian Federation were celebrated on August 26 in Tskhinval. Eight years have passed since Dmitry Medvedev signed the historic Decree of the Russian Federation President on Recognition of the Republic of South Ossetia, that had been preceded by years of bloody struggle of South Ossetia people against Georgia for the right for free life and future worth living.
During the August war of 2008 that came culmination of the aggressive militarist ambitions of Georgia against South Ossetia the Russian Federation conducted the peace-enforcement operation and played a crucial role in the conflict resolution. After having recognized the independence of South Ossetia in 2008, Russia acts as a guarantor of existence of the Republic as an independent state and peaceful future of South Ossetia people.
We in South Ossetia appreciate highly the intensive and confidential political dialogue established between Tskhinval and Moscow. For the eight years past, cooperation between South Ossetia and Russia increased and more than 80 agreements were conducted, including the Treaty on Alliance and Integration, signed by the Presidents of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation on March 18, 2015 in Kremlin. The revanchist moods remaining in Georgia cause special relevance of interaction in security sphere. Large-scale assistance in reconstructing South Ossetia is provided by Russia through implementing the investment program promoting social and economic development of the Republic of South Ossetia.
Full support given to the Republic of South Ossetia by the Russian Federation in strengthening statehood and development of civil society, social and political institutions, in ongoing social and economic development is a guarantee for South Ossetia to get into the international community.
