Exchange of ratifications of the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership signed between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia on December 22, 2017.

Andrey Tskhovrebov, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, and Egor Kochiev, Head of Diplomatic Mission of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in the Republic of South Ossetia signed the Protocol on exchange of ratifications of the Treaty.

Pertaining to the results of the 42ndround of the Geneva International Discussions

December 12-13, 2017 saw a regular round of the Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia. A delegation from the Republic of South Ossetia, headed by Murat Dzhioev, the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia on post-conflict settlement, delegations from the Republic of Abkhazia, Georgia, the Russian Federation and the USA as well as representatives of the EU, the UN and the OSCE took part in negotiations.

December 14 saw a briefing of Dmitriy Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, organized for the South Ossetian media representatives upon a visit of the Minister to Belgium and France.

The Minister spoke in detail about his participation in the 11th European Russian Forum entitled “EU 2017 and Russian Revolution 1917: Lessons not Learned”, which was held on December 3-4 in the European Parliament in Brussels, and highlighted the key points of his report “South Ossetia and Russia: two and a half centuries of common history”.

December 8, 2017 saw a meeting of Dmitriy Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, with Laura Arys-Djanaeva, the President of Ossetian Association in France “Alania”, which marked the end of the visit of the Minister to France.

During the meeting the parties emphasized directions of practical interaction with the Ossetian community in France in cultural, scientific and humanitarian spheres. Mutual consent to maintain regular contacts and use the existing potential for overcoming common challenges was expressed.

Dmitriy Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, met with representatives of the Ossetian community in France on December 7, 2017 in the House of Associations in Paris.

During the meeting the Minister told about the social and economic situation in South Ossetia, the priority directions of foreign and domestic policy of the Republic, the work on strengthening ties between South Ossetia and Ossetian communities, and answered numerous questions of representatives of the association.

Upon an invitation from Laura Arys-Djanaeva, the President of Ossetian Association in France “Alania”, Dmitriy Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, arrived in France on December 7, 2017.

In framework of the visit Minister Medoev met with Ekaterina Solonitskaya, Head of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Paris.

During the meeting the participants discussed perspectives of development of humanitarian and cultural cooperation, possibilities of implementation of joint projects and other issues of mutual interest.

Anatolii Bibilov, the President of the Republic of South Ossetia, hosted a meeting with Gairbek Salbiev, the Chairman of Darial Public Movement, which unites natives and citizens of the Kazbegi region of Georgia. Representatives of the organization have numerous times claimed about violation of their rights by Georgian authorities.

December 4, 2017 saw a working meeting of Dmitrii Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, and Vitaly Ignatiev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, organized at the margins of the 11th European Russian Forum in the European Parliament in Brussels.

Issues of mutual interests were discussed during the meeting. In particular, the Ministers talked about strengthening interaction between foreign policy agencies of the two states.

Joint communiqué was adopted after the meeting.

 

The 11th European Russian Forum entitled “EU 2017 and Russian Revolution 1917: Lessons not Learned”, will take place in the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium on December 3-4, 2017.

The South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitrii Medoev, who arrived in Brussels upon an invitation from Tatjana Zdanoka, Member of the European Parliament and the President of the European Russian Alliance, will make a report as well.
