Press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia on a working meeting with the Co-Chairs of the GID

On June 8, a working meeting of the South Ossetian delegation at the Geneva International Discussions, headed by the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of South Ossetia for post-conflict settlement M.K. Dzhioev, and the Co-Chairs of the Geneva Discussions from the EU, OSCE and UN took place in Tskhinval.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the agenda for the upcoming 53rd round of the Geneva Discussions, scheduled for June 29-30 this year.

The South Ossetian side once again drew the attention of the Co-Chairs to the importance of stepping up work towards the development of a legally binding document on the non-use of force by Georgia against South Ossetia, on which the issue of ensuring lasting security of the Republic directly depends and which has been a key topic of the GID all these years.

The South Ossetian delegation reiterated its clear position that the illegally equipped Georgian police checkpoint on South Ossetian territory in the immediate vicinity of the Uista (Tsnelis) settlement of the Znaur region is a source of tension and should be removed.

The parties positively assessed the work within the framework of the IPRM, including the existing “hot line”, which allows to respond promptly to emerging problems.

During the meeting, attention was also paid to humanitarian topics, primarily the search for missing citizens of South Ossetia.
