Reply of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of RSO to IA “Res” on the Main Conclusions of the EU Commission Headed by Heidi Tagliavini on the Investigation of Circumstances of Armed Conflict in South Ossetia in August 2008

Q. European Parliament supported the main conclusions of the report of the independent international EU commission headed by Heidi Tagliavini on the investigation of circumstances of armed conflict in South Ossetia, in line with it the war in South Ossetia was launched by Georgia. Do you think that Tagliavini’s conclusions will influence on the policy of the West support of current Georgian regime?

R. The results of the work of the independent international EU commission headed by Heidi Tagliavini having investigated the events of August 2008 were expected with appropriate interest in the Republic of South Ossetia. The commission conducted huge work and it worked with all the parties involved in the war of August 2008.

In whole the hope for professionalism of the commission members and impartiality of the conclusions made by them was reasonable. Mrs. Tagliavini in her report, issued in December 2009, in recent statement before PAEC deputies and US Congress Commission unambiguously laid the responsibility for the starting of the war in August 2008 upon Georgia and its authorities.

We hope that at last international community get to know the truth and the Western patrons of Saakashvili’s regime stop supporting and providing him armament.
