The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia received a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Georgian military aggression against the Republic of South Ossetia.
The note, in particular, reads:
“Georgia’s treacherous attack on South Ossetia on August 8, 2008 once again has shown to the international community the real face and intentions of the criminal regime of Mikheil Saakashvili. At the cost of the lives of their sons and daughters the people of South Ossetia defended the freedom and independence of the Motherland and protected its future.
The tragic events of August 2008 became a turning point in the modern history of South Ossetia. The subsequent speedy recognition of the Republic of South Ossetia as a sovereign and independent state by the Russian Federation became the restoration of the historical justice and a reliable guarantee of security and stability both in the Republic and in the whole region.
Today, the people of the Republic of Abkhazia, which survived the 1992-1993 Abkhaz Patriotic War, together with the fraternal South Ossetian people, honor the memory of those who gave the most priceless – their lives for the sake of peace in the South Ossetian land”.
