In framework of the official visit to the Syrian Arab Republic the delegation of the Republic of South Ossetia, headed by President Anatolii Bibilov, visit the main sanctuaries of Syria.
Accompanied by Atef Nadda, the Minister for Higher Education, the South Ossetian delegation visited the town of Saidnaya, where the Convent of Our Lady, one of the oldest and biggest monasteries, which was found in 547, is located.
In Damascus the South Ossetian delegation visited the Umayyad Mosque, which is also known as the Great Mosque of Damascus. The President and members of the delegation were told about the history of the mosque, which had been built at place of the Christian church and where John the Baptist’ head is kept.
Anatolii Bibilov left a record in the book of distinguished visitors and wished all people of Syria, regardless of religion, peace and mutual understanding.
The delegation visited the underground church of Saint Ananias as well – the most ancient Christian church, which belongs to the Catholic community.
