On October 22, 2017, at the end of the visit to Italy, the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitriy Medoev arrived in Venice, the capital of region Veneto, where the consultative referendum on the extension of the autonomy was being held.
Veneto is one of the most economically developed regions of Italy.
In framework of the visit a meeting of Minister Medoev with Dr. Luchano Sandona, member of the Regional Council of Veneto, responsible for the referendum from the Government, took place. Later the Minister observed the voting process.
Roberto Ciambetti, the President of the Regional Council of Veneto, hosted a meeting with Foreign Minister Medoev on the same day.
The parties exchanged opinions on a wide range of issues, including in particular, execution of the right to freedom of expression. Mr. Ciambetti told about preparations for the referendum and the high voting activity of the population. In his turn Mr. Medoev shared the historical aspects of the South Ossetian referendums, which allowed the Republic to overcome the key statehood building problems.
The parties emphasized the necessity of human rights and freedom protection and marked, that it had to be done in a peaceful manner.
The meeting took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
