Press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

Upon the invitation from Vadim Potomskiy, the Governor of the Orel region, Dmitriy Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, participated in the solemnities, dedicated to the 80th Anniversary of the Orel region, organized in Orel on September 27, 2017.

The festivities began at the Square of Tankers, where a wreath laying ceremony took place. The attendees paid tribute to heroes who fell for the freedom of Motherland and the liberation from the fascist occupants and laid flowers at the Monument to the Heroes, at the common grave and at the Monument to Ivan Baghramyan, Marshal of the Soviet Union, twice Hero of the Soviet Union and Freeman of the City of Orel.

In framework of the visit a meeting of Minister Medoev with Governor Potomskiy, where the perspectives of bilateral cooperation in various spheres were discussed, was organized. The Minister congratulated the Governor and citizens of the region on the holiday and wished prosperity to the region. On the occasion of the jubilee a commemorative token “80 Years of the Orel region” was presented to the Minister by Vadim Potomskiy.

Alongside with this Minister Medoev met with South Ossetian students, who receive higher education in Orel.

On the occasion of the holiday a solemn assembly and a gala concert entitled “Mellow Chime of Orel” took place in the concert hall of Grinn Touristic Mixed Use Complex.
