Anatoliy Bibilov, the President of the Republic of South Ossetia, met with Cyrill, the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia.
In his welcoming speech the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church expressed confidence that the work of Anatoliy Bibilov at the high post would promote consolidation of the society and wished to discuss religious issues and hear the opinion of the President on the situation in South Ossetia.
“Morality, orderliness and many other things depend on the spiritual life of people. Therefore, except for a purely spiritual significance, religion has an applied one – social and political”, said the Patriarch.
The President marked that “Ossetian and Russian nations have long common history and roots of Orthodox Christianity, and today South Ossetia is ready to carry on the fraternal traditions”.
The issue of construction of a church of the Russian Orthodox Church in Tskhinval as well as possibilities for South Ossetian citizens to educate in Russian religious seminaries and academies were discussed at the meeting.
