Comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

Couldn't but draw attention to the latest attempts to define “the status of Abkhazia and South Ossetia” once again undertaken in Georgia. This time the issue of their “special status as part of Georgia” was discussed by a constitutional commission of the neighboring state.

The absurd idea about a possibility of a certain “reintegration” and coexistence of South Ossetia, Abkhazia and Georgia within one state is imposed on Georgian society with a persistence that deserves better application.

The absurdity of the situation consists in the fact that it is happening nowadays, 25 years after the referendum on independence was conducted in South Ossetia, after several military aggressions of Georgia against the Ossetian people and after recognition of the Republic of South Ossetia as a subject of international law.

Once again we would like to urge Georgian politicians to come down to earth and look around the ground where the real and valid frontier line between our countries runs. However, it’s obvious that they are perfectly informed about that in Georgia, because on a regular basis they arrange excursions for various foreign politicians along the border.

It is impossible to prolong the myth about “territorial integrity” further, and they have to understand that in Georgia. However, there still is a real opportunity to start the relations settlement process between our countries based on principles of international law and for the benefit of our people.
