Comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

Statements on Russia-South Ossetia relations made by Vladimir Zhirinovsky at a press-conference organized in the press center of TASS on September 14 were not left without attention in South Ossetia. In particular he declared that “the position of the LDPR is not to help anybody, any republics, anywhere … Let them develop themselves, not by means of Russia, or let them become a part of Russia or let them return to some other region”.

The irreversibility of the decision made by the authorities of the Russian Federation on recognition of the state independence of South Ossetia, as well as the permanence of the course pursued by the Russian Federation on further support given to South Ossetia and its people in all spheres of cooperation were emphasized not once by representatives of Russian government.

A politician of such a level as Vladimir Volfovich, can't but understand and realize that similar statements, rash and supported by nothing, purposefully play into the hands of enemies of South Ossetia and Russia and do not promote creating a favorable image of truly friendly bilateral relations. And it’s up to certain specialists to give an assessment to the social and economic relations between South Ossetia and Russia, Mr. Zhirinovsky was talking about.

However, taking into consideration the excessive emotionality of this politician and the desire to gain more votes at the upcoming elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, we are sure that Vladimir Volfovich's statements won't affect firm, friendly ties between South Ossetia and Russian people.
