The Head of the Official Representative Office (Embassy) of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Transdniestria Moldavian Republic Sergei Surago sent a greeting telegram to South Ossetia Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Dzhioev on the occasion of the national holiday of the Republic of South Ossetia - the Day of the Republic.
The telegram says in particular:
“Twenty years ago the Soviet of People`s Deputies of South Ossetia made a historical decision. The Declaration of National Sovereignty of the Republic opened a new stage in the life of it` s people, it became a conscious choice which allowed them to defend their own culture, language and national identity. This step was a logical and the only true answer to aggressive nationalism of the Georgian government, humiliation and terror from the side of Tbilisi, aspiring to deprive Ossetian people of their identity. In such circumstances their own statehood became for people of South Ossetia a reliable guarantee on ensuring their human rights and liberty.
As a response to the democratic choice made by the Ossetian people, full-scale hostilities took place from the side of Georgian government. During the last twenty years they tried twice to obliterate physically the population of South Ossetia, starting up the policy of constant blockades, frightening and provocations. However, all these actions could not crush the people. Social solidarity, courage and determination helped the people of the Republic to withstand in those crucially difficult conditions.
Undoubtedly, the crucial decision of the Russian Government to shield Ossetian people was a determining factor which made possible to prevent genocide, deployed by the fascist regime of Tbilisi. Acting resolutely and effectively, Moscow stopped Georgian invasion, and became a guarantee of peaceful and safe development of South Ossetia.
Today the Republic is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a recognized country which in close union with Russia builds worthy future and fortifies its positions in the international community. Cautious attitude to history, faithfulness to traditions and continuity of generations – these all are the values which allowed the Ossetian people to defend their statehood and inspire the people of South Ossetia to constructive work calling to provide a progressive development of the economy, social sphere, infrastructure.
The activation of the interaction between South Ossetia and brotherly Transdniestria plays an important role on this way. With the participation of the Official Representative Office (Embassy) of South Ossetia in the Transdniestria Moldavian Republic the contacts in diplomatic, economic, social, cultural spheres are being developed, the projects calling to actualize the rights of our citizens are being implemented.
I am sure: the fruitful collaboration of the two Republics combined by common aims and tasks will allow embodying successfully the ideals announced twenty years ago.
On this bright and red-letter day accept, dear Murat Kuzmich, the warmest wishes of peace, good and wellbeing, new achievements in your hard work for the benefit of the people of South Ossetia.”
