July 14 – Peacekeeper’s Day

Today, commemorative events, dedicated to the Peacekeeper’s Day are held in South Ossetia.

32 years ago, on July 14, 1992, on the basis of the Agreement on the principles of the settlement of the Georgian -Ossetian conflict, signed by heads of Russia, Georgia, North Ossetia and South Ossetia, the Trilateral Peacekeeping Force was introduced into the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia.

The peacekeeping mission in South Ossetia had been recognized as exemplary and unique in its success and minimum losses till August 2008, when Georgian “colleagues” opened fire on the back of Russian peacekeepers.

Russian and Ossetian peacekeepers fulfilled their noble mission to the end.

Memorial services for the fallen peacekeeping heroes have been held today in churches of the Republic.

A flower-laying ceremony was held at the Stele in memory of soldiers and officers of the peacekeeping forces.

The First Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of South Ossetia Andrey Tskhovrebov and employees of the Ministry took part in the ceremony.
