On the elections of deputies of the South Ossetian Parliament of the VIII convocation

МИД Южной Осетии

On June 9, 2024, elections of deputies of the Parliament of the 8th convocation were held in the Republic of South Ossetia. The voting took place at 73 polling stations, including 2 stations opened on territory of the Russian Federation.

According to the results of processing the protocols prepared by district election committees, political parties “Edinaya Ossetia”, “Nykhas”, “Narodnaya partiya”, “Communisticheskaya partiya” will be represented in the supreme representative body of the Republic.

About 30 international observers from Russia, Belarus, Abkhazia and Turkey followed the electoral process. The elections were held in a calm atmosphere, with the observance of national legislation and in international standards.

Despite the high assessment of the level of the voting process, a number of states made traditional for them statements about the support to the so-called territorial integrity of Georgia and non-recognition of the elections.

We believe that similar stand does not correspond to the reality at all. The Republic of South Ossetia is a recognized by members of the international community, including by the Russian Federation, state, which establishes relations based on the principles of equal rights and mutual respect, non-interference in the sovereign choice of nations and has nothing to do with neighboring Georgia.

We intend to further strengthen the statehood of the Republic of South Ossetia, including its representative bodies, through democratic procedures based on the expression of will of the people.
