Comment by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia pertaining to the resolution on displaced persons and refugees from South Ossetia and Abkhazia, adopted at 78th session of the UN GA

МИД Южной Осетии

On June 4, the resolution prepared by Georgia on displaced persons and refugees from South Ossetia and Abkhazia was adopted again at the 78th session of the UN GA.

Obviously, instead of practical efforts aimed at solution of the problems of refugees, the counterproductive practice of politicizing the issue is continued, since South Ossetia has no opportunity to present its reasoned stand during the discussion held at the UN platform. Contrary to the true state of affairs, the resolution is based on the absolutely false thesis about the belonging of the Abkhaz and South Ossetian territories to Georgia. And, certainly, the document, which annual presentation in the UN became a sort of a ritual, does not contain a single word about the fact that the emergence of the problem of refugees is the tragic consequence of armed conflicts, launched precisely by Georgia against South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Meanwhile, annually, under the guise of promoting humanitarian problem in the UN, the Georgian party considers as a success the increase of the number of the resolution supporters, instead of practical actions, aimed at solving the problems of the affected people.

We consider the things happening now as continuation of the cynical and dirty political game, initiated by Georgia behind the backs of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Unfortunately, such a state of affairs receives support in the UN and deprives us of any perspectives of discussing the problem of refugees and displaced persons in framework of the GID.
