The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Akhsar Dzhioev sent a congratulatory message to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Nicaragua Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the recognition of the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia by the Republic of Nicaragua.
The message, in particular, reads:
"This historic decision, taken by the top leadership of Nicaragua on September 3, 2008, following the Russian Federation, was implemented after the tragic events of Georgia's armed aggression against South Ossetia in August 2008 and confirmed the fundamental right of the South Ossetian people to freedom, human dignity and a safe life on the land of their ancestors. The right to self-sufficient independent development and the path traversed to international recognition were won by the people of South Ossetia at the cost of many years of intense struggle, at the cost of heavy losses and victims.
The decision of Nicaragua to recognize the independence of South Ossetia once again demonstrated the independent, courageous Sandinista spirit and nature of the leadership of Nicaragua in conducting the State foreign policy course, and convincingly proved that the most important dimension for Nicaragua in international relations remains a firm commitment to the principles and norms of international law, justice, peace and democratic development.
This significant event cannot be overestimated in the history and fate of South Ossetia. The people of South Ossetia will always be grateful to the Nicaraguan people for the outstretched hand of friendship and for their unamended steadfast support in the international arena.
For fifteen years now, the relations of friendship and cooperation between our countries have been successfully developing in different directions and are based on the principles of equality, mutual respect for each other's interests. Meaningful interstate political dialogue is expanding, as well as cooperation in other spheres."
