Comment by a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia pertaining to the statement made by the President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili

МИД Южной Осетии

We have paid attention to the words of Salome Zourabichvili, the President of Georgia, who stated in her interview to Bloomberg that Georgian problems connected with the ongoing claims for the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Republic of Abkhazia should be should in conjunction with future peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. At the same time Mrs. Zourabichvili a priori believes that Russia will be the defeated party in those peace negotiations.

At the background of non-joining of the Georgian government to anti-Russian sanctions and vain attempts of certain “friends of Georgia” to drag it in military confrontation with Russia, these statements voiced by such a high ranking official are nothing but signals of a serious inter political crises in Georgia.

We in South Ossetia sincerely hope that the current Georgian political and military leadership would remain rational and pragmatic and would not allow imposition of scenarios, which could lead to catastrophic results. To do this, it has to admit the geopolitical realities existing in the region, and, following the advice by Mrs. Zurabichvili, learn, where its own state’s borders are.
