South Ossetia welcomes and expresses full solidarity with the decision of the President of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin on the recognition of state sovereignty and independence of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Lugansk People’s Republic.
The South Ossetian people, like no one else, understands what is happening in these Republics, because they have felt the consequences of Georgian nationalism, they have passed all the ordeals of war and deprivation.
The recent sharp aggravation of the situation in the Donbass, provoked by official Kiev, which completely ignores all points of the Minsk mechanism, left no choice for the Russian Federation.
It is no secret that the undisguised intervention of Western countries, led by the United States, played an important role in unwinding the spiral of tension, designating Ukraine as a testing ground for their geopolitical games and creating a zone of enhanced military danger.
We hope that this significant event will serve to strengthen the moral principle and basic values in international law, which for several decades have been eroded by double standards applied to certain countries.
We are convinced that the recognition of the independence of Donbass by the Russian Federation will help stabilize the situation and strengthen security in the region, as well as give an accelerated impetus to the development and improvement of the well-being of the population of these Republics, and most importantly, put an end to many years of bloodshed.
