Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

Pertaining to NATO-Georgia Exercise 2016

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia expresses concern about NATO-Georgia Exercise 2016 scheduled for November 10-20. As declared, the main objectives of the exercises are “increasing the intercompatibility of Georgian, Allied and Partner Forces as well as enhancing command and control capabilities”.

South Ossetia consistently and regularly was emphasizing the dangerous consequences of ongoing military build-up of Georgia with help of the USA and NATO, was calling Member States for making a right choice, but unfortunately, those claims were never heard and resulted in the August war of 2008.

Against the background of ongoing aggressive statements made by Georgian politicians, NATO trainings on territory of Georgia are taken as regular destructive actions aimed at aggravating the situation as their scale and number of troops and assets involved has been increasing with each year. No matter how are the exercises explained they negatively affect the relative stability in the region.

Obviously, NATO-Georgia Exercise 2016 demonstrates the provocative course pursued by the Alliance in unconditional support of Georgian revanchist policy and in designed sabotage of situation in Transcaucasia.
Once again we call the Member States for estimating the consequences of August 2008, take into consideration the complicated alignment of forces in the region and prevent taking random decisions that could lead to tragic and irrevocable results.
