Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

Military training centers for NATO members and its partners will be created on territory of Georgia announced the representative of the alliance. Next manoeuvers of NATO will also take place in Georgia this year. What is more, such maneuvers will be staged in the country regularly.

It seems that NATO doesn’t seek for maintaining peace in the Caucasian region. Obviously, Georgian troops training as well as NATO manoeuvers staging in Georgia will hazard and destabilize the situation in the region, as forces the non-members states to take adequate measures providing security against Georgia and its allies’ aggression.

Unfortunately western countries that haven’t given an appropriate assessment of Georgian aggression against South Ossetia yet, keep on showing indulgence towards Georgia authorities’ militarization aspirations. The whole world was a witness of how Georgia used the military power that had been increased by means of NATO countries, when fire was brought down upon peaceful Tskhinval in August, 2008.

Without any doubt the steps made by NATO in Georgia can become an obstacle to promotion in negotiation process within the Geneva discussions, in framework of which Georgia objects flatly to sign a legally binding document on non-use of force.

South Ossetia urges western partners of Georgia to recall the recent decades of war unleashed by Georgia, to estimate once again the possible consequences for peace and stability in a hazard zone in opposite to a reckless support given to Georgia and its revanchist sentiments and to stop encouraging Tbilisi which has already gone too far thanks to impunity of its militaristic ambitions.
