The Israeli airstrikes on the Syrian Arab Republic and, in particular on the territory of the presidential palace and the Defence Ministry in Damascus, are violating the international law and the provisions of the UN Charter.

At the initiative of the Georgian delegation, a paragraph calling on the Syrian authorities to withdraw recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia was included in the final declaration of the 32nd session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly held in Portugal. This is apart from the standard appeals of this kind to Russia.
Within the framework of the ongoing 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, a biased resolution initiated by Georgia and its “friends” regarding refugees and displaced persons from South Ossetia and Abkhazia has once again been adopted.
We have familiarised ourselves with the latest consolidated report by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe on the ‘Conflict in Georgia’, which repeats time after time unfounded allegations about the so-called occupation of Georgia and the dire human rights and security situation in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, and contains the traditional set of ‘instructions’ on the withdrawal of Russian troops, the immediate admission of international human rights defenders and so on.
In an interview with a Georgian channel Imedi TV, the Prime Minister of Georgia I. Kobakhidze, commenting on the topic of relations with Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the context of restoring Georgia’s territorial integrity, stated that this “will become a reality if Tbilisi shows patience and we are guided by that patience in our policy.”
It is obvious that in the light of the ongoing protest actions bythe Georgian opposition since last autumn, speculation has beenincreasing on the restoration of the so-called territorial integrity of Georgia.
Attention was drawn to the statements of the Georgian Foreign Minister Maki Bochorishvili in an interview with the Spanish agency EFE, in which she voiced a kind of ‘reference points’ of the old-new Georgian foreign policy, in particular, stating that “her country does not want a new war with Russia, but does not refuse membership in NATO and the European Union (EU)”.
The appeals of a number of Georgian opposition parties to the new Syrian authorities to revoke recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, first of all, should be considered in the context of the internal political crisis which has been lasting since autumn. The results of the parliamentary elections and the defeat of the political force which was ruling for more than a decade, have been catalyzing processes and public rhetoric, which is obviously destructive. It is, to a greater extent, aimed at increasing its media exposure.
On 5-6 December, the 31st meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE Ministerial Council) was held in Valletta, Malta.
On 11 October in Geneva, the United Nations Human Rights Council, with the support of the delegations of the European Union, Bulgaria, Japan, Luxembourg and Finland, adopted another resolution entitled “Cooperation with Georgia”, which contains biased statements that do not reflect reality about the so-called occupation of Georgian territories and “human rights violations… in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions of Georgia’.
Attention has been drawn to the statements made by Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze during his speech at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Against the background of the parliamentary elections, which will be held in Georgia in October, various declarative statements related to the status of South Ossetia and Abkhazia are voiced by Georgian politicians more and more often. The ruling Georgian party is no exception, since in its struggle for electorate it speculates on the topic of restoring the so-called territorial integrity.
