On the occasion of 5th anniversary since recognition of the independence of South Ossetia by Russian Federation
26 August is a historical date for people of South Ossetia. On this day five years ago President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev signed a Decree on recognition of South Ossetia.
The right for free and independent development was won by people of South Ossetia during many years of struggle with heavy losses and sacrifices. During almost twenty years Tbilisi regime did not allow South Ossetia to develop economically, kept South Ossetia under pressure and in the atmosphere horror. Terror and aggression, war and blockades these were the instruments of the authorities of Georgia for suppression of this free nation, to dishearten and brake the will but this only strengthened determination of the people to struggle for its legal right for equal rights with other nations.
In August 2008 Georgian authorities launched a large scale armed aggression against South Ossetia to eliminate the unbowed nation and to wipe out Ossetian villages and towns. However, the offense of the Georgian troops met a strong resistance of the defenders of South Ossetia. The determined interference of Russian Federation prevented a genocide and helped to expel the aggressor from the Ossetian land. Russian Federation, following its peacekeeping obligations, realizing that a dialogue with war criminals was not possible, made the only right decision and recognized the independence of Republic of South Ossetia.
Recognition of the independence gave a new incitement to development of South Ossetia. Now security of South Ossetia is guaranteed by Russia. The country is confidently moving towards socio-economic progress, establishing a modern democratic state.
