In the statement of Georgia MFA disclosed on July 16, 2012 was expressed concern apropos of the visit of Land Forces Commander-in-Chief Colonel General Vladimir Chirkin to South Ossetia who ostensibly “in violation of Georgia’s state border visited occupied by Russia Georgian regions Tskhinval region and Abkhazia”.
Ignoring of common sense has ever been in habit of official Tbilisi and such statements of Georgian side not more than usual practice of Georgia on accusing South Ossetia and Russia. Georgia keeps ignoring present day realities and by all means tries to grade the fact of existing of independent state of the Republic of South Ossetia.
Indeed, Colonel-General Vladimir Chirkin came to the Republic of South Ossetia with working visit as the development of bilateral relations between Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia assumes close interaction including mutual official and working visits and this is quite natural. Land Forces Commander-in-Chief Colonel General Vladimir Chirkin did not violate the state border of Georgia, moreover he never approach to it. Making account of foreign policy development, South Ossetia is constricting its relations independently and considers interference in its interior as violation of international principles.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia stated more than once that South Ossetia has nothing common with the territorial integrity of Georgia. As for the presence of Russian military contingent at the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia it is stipulated by bilateral Russian-Southossetian agreements and the people of South Ossetia does not envisage alternative to Russian military presence in the region taking in account an aggressive policy of Georgia against South Ossetia.
Summary of EU Independent Committee report headed by Mrs. Heidi Tagliavini unambiguously proved that it was Georgia who emerged an aggressor in August 2008 and followed after that constant military preparations of Georgia and threats “to restore sovereign integrity” that unfortunately lacks of enough attention of international community and indeed constitute serious danger and tells of revanchist ambitions of Georgian leadership.
Georgia can positively impact on the situation in the region only by accepting political reality and arranging good neighbourly relations with the Republic of South Ossetia.
