The Agreement between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation about the procedures for certain divisions of the RSO Armed Forces entry to the structure of Russian Armed Forces that is currently under preparation for signing caused strong feelings among Georgian political and public community as it allegedly violates “the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Georgia” and “destabilizes the situation in the region”.

March 14 saw a meeting of Murat Dzhioev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia on post-conflict settlement, and members of South Ossetian delegation at the GID, with Alexey Dvinyanin and Marat Kulakhmetov, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and members of Russian delegation at the Discussions.

Murat Dzhioev, South Ossetia Foreign Minister, hosted a meeting with representatives of the ICRC Representation in the Republic of South Ossetia.

Nalan Antmen, Head of the Representation, whose mission on the ground is terminating, expressed gratitude to the authorities of the Republic for the working conditions in South Ossetia and introduced her successor, Farrukh Islomov, the new Head of the Representation.

Within the visit to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela bilateral consultations between delegations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Ministry of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela took place in Caracas on March7-8.

Murat Dzhioev, South Ossetia Foreign Minister and the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia on post-conflict settlement, heading South Ossetia delegation at the Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia, hosted a meeting with the Co-Chairs of the Discussions representing the EU, the OSCE and the UN, who arrived to the Republic on March 07 in anticipation of the 39th round of the Discussions.

Commemoration events dedicated to the 4th anniversary of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s death are taking place in Caracas on March 5-7, 2017.

A delegation of the Republic of South Ossetia consisting of Alan Kochiev, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of South Ossetia, and Narim Kozaev, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, arrived in Caracas upon invitation from the authorities of Venezuela.

South Ossetia paid attention to the tendentious and prejudiced resolution adopted by the U.S. Congress in support of the “territorial integrity” of Georgia. Once again, the bias position of the U.S. congressmen can be judged from the fact that they unreservedly support the position of Georgia and appeal to Russia to “call back recognition of independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia”.

Murat Dzhioev, South Ossetia Foreign Minister, visited Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Republic of South Ossetia and delivered condolences to Elbrus Kargiev, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in RSO, on the passing of Vitaly Churkin, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, on February 21, 2017.

February 13, 2017 saw a meeting of Murat Dzhioev, South Ossetia Foreign Minister, with Nalan Antmen, Head of the ICRC mission in South Ossetia, whose mission on the ground is terminating.

The activity conducted by the Mission on territory of the Republic was discussed at the meeting. Head of the Mission informed the Minister about humanitarian programs that currently are under implementation and would be run this year.

The parties exchanged opinions on joint efforts in search of unaccounted for made in framework of the Trilateral Coordination Mechanism.

Q: A meeting of Grigoriy Karasin, State Secretary, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, and Zurab Abashidze, Georgian Prime Minister's Special Representative for Relations with Russia, was held on February 7. Despite the fact that it was a regular meeting in this format, information about its outcome attracted public attention in South Ossetia. What are the reasons of that?
