On September 17, 2008, Presidents of South Ossetia and Russia signed the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation, which marked the beginning of the modern stage of inter-state relations between the two countries and created conditions for the development of bilateral dialogue and cooperation in all spheres.
On 15 September, Narim Kozaev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Ossetia to the Republic of Nicaragua, at the invitation of the Nicaraguan Embassy in Russia, took part in the opening ceremony of Nicaragua's Motherland Week, dedicated to the 204th anniversary of the Independence of the countries of Central America and the 169th anniversary of the glorious Battle of San Jacinto.
On 16 September, President of the Republic of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Akhsar Dzhioev, where foreign policy activities of the ministry were discussed in the context of the upcoming 35th anniversary of the Republic of South Ossetia.

September 9 marks the 17th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation.

On September 3, in Tskhinval, a memorial action took place at the Cathedral Square near the Church of the Nativity of the Blessing Virgin Marry, in memory of the victims of the terrorist attack in Beslan.
The event was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Akhsar Dzhioev along with employees of the Ministry.
From September 1 to 3, commemorative events are being held in Ossetia to mark the 21st anniversary of the horrific terrorist attack in Beslan.
On August 31, a delegation from the Republic of South Ossetia, which included Minister of Foreign Affairs A.M. Dzhioev, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Z.N. Driaev, and Head of the Department for cooperation with Foreign Institutions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs A.G. Sanakoev, participated in a solemn farewell ceremony of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of South Ossetia to the Republic of Abkhazia Oleg Botsiev.
