On September 17, 2008, Presidents of South Ossetia and Russia signed the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation, which marked the beginning of the modern stage of inter-state relations between the two countries and created conditions for the development of bilateral dialogue and cooperation in all spheres.

The basic principles of the Treaty, which were further developed with the signing of the Treaty of Alliance and Integration between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation on March 18, 2015, fully correspond to the historical traditions of friendship and good-neighbourliness between our peoples and serve as a solid legal basis for the stable development of South Ossetian-Russian relations.

At the present time, dozens of bilateral documents signed on the basis of the Treaty are in force, ensuring reliable and effective regulation of comprehensive cooperation between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation.
