On September 25, during the High-Level week of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, like his predecessors who have spoken from high international platforms over the past seventeen years, did not fail to mention the “occupation line” and the duty to overcome through joint efforts “artificially created obstacles, rebuild broken bridges and leave past grievances to history.”
Unfortunately, instead of taking real action, instead of having the courage to acknowledge responsibility for the aggression, to commit to non-use of force against South Ossetia and Abkhazia, and to accept the existing geopolitical realities, the Georgian authorities, regardless of their political orientation, recite the same narratives devoid of constructiveness year after year.
The Russian Federation has been consistent in its actions, which have a solid legal basis, and the decisions taken in August 2008 to recognize the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Republic of Abkhazia are not subject to revision. This has been repeatedly stated.
