Within the framework of the ongoing 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, a biased resolution initiated by Georgia and its “friends” regarding refugees and displaced persons from South Ossetia and Abkhazia has once again been adopted.
South Ossetia has repeatedly emphasized that international platforms, unfortunately, continue to consistently project a biased position devoid of any signs of objectivity.
The obvious facts and existing realities concerning the Republic of South Ossetia and the Republic of Abkhazia, their political and legal status recognized by the member states of the United Nations, as well as the suffering endured by the Ossetian and the Abkhaz peoples due to the actions of the Georgian nationalist regime and armed aggression, including the plight of hundreds of thousands of refugees and victims, are systematically ignored and suppressed by the “enlightened” West.
The use of terms such as “occupation” and “occupied territories” in relation to South Ossetia is entirely unfounded. This has been repeatedly demonstrated, including in the format of International Discussions on Security and Stability in the Transcaucasia, in which the UN also participates, as well as in other formats.
Unfortunately, instead of adopting effective measures to strengthen confidence-building measures, providing the victims of the Georgian aggression the opportunity to express their position from the UN podium, facilitating the development of mutually beneficial and equal approaches and advancing guarantees of safety concerning South Ossetia and Abkhazia, the UN year after year applies the “double standards” policy, ignoring its own fundamental principles regarding the rights of peoples.
While recognizing the content of the resolution as absolutely unsound, one-sided and detached from the reality, we call for greater objectiveness and responsibility regarding the Republic of South Ossetia.
