To the 31st anniversary of the adoption of the Act of Declaration of Independence and the formation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

On May 28, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia celebrates the 31st anniversary of its foundation. Since 2011, this day has also been a professional day for South Ossetian diplomats.

This significant date is inextricably linked with the establishment of the statehood of the Republic of South Ossetia. On May 29, 1992, in the face of ongoing military aggression, at the historic session of the Supreme Council of South Ossetia, the Act of Declaration of Independence of South Ossetia was adopted and the first government, which included the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was formed.

The proclamation of statehood laid the legal foundations for further democratic development of the country, and the Foreign Ministry became one of the most important institutions of independent South Ossetia, defending state interests in the most difficult conditions of international isolation and pressure from the international community, in conditions of non-recognition and military threat, making a great contribution to ensuring the country's security.

The South Ossetian diplomacy has passed a difficult and interesting path of formation and development. Today, the South Ossetian diplomats have to work in conditions when the situation worldwide has seriously escalated, common security threats are growing, and the international community is going through a period of formation of a new system of international relations. Relying on the accumulated experience and traditions, the diplomatic service remains at the forefront of efforts to defend the national interests of the state in difficult geopolitical conditions.
