The staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia grieves over the untimely death of the statesman and public figure of South Ossetia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Boris Eliozovich Chochiev.

The life path of Boris Eliozovich serves as an example of sencere and geniune patriotism, devotion to his country and people. It is impossible to talk about the history of the formation of the statehood of South Ossetia without mentioning the name of Boris Chochiev. Everyone remembers him as a talented diplomat, a successful administrator, a statesman, a man who combined the features of a high official and a bright personality. No matter what high positions he occupied, he was didtinguished by inexhaustible energy, efficiency, an exceptional sense of responsibility.

The state approach to solving the tasks assigned to him, vast political experience and foresight allowed him to find a way out of difficult situations. During the most difficult negotiations, the organization of key events, he acted clearly and professionally, collected and reliably. He put the interests of the country above all.

His wisdom, managerial experience and wit were respected even by his opponents, and his responsiveness and willingness to help won recognition and authiority among the people of South Ossetia.

Boris Chochiev’s passing away is a huge loss for the entire Republic, for everyone who knew him, had the honor to work with him and be friends with him. We say goodby to a truly great man who left behind him a bright historical trace, whose name will remain in the memory of the Ossetian people for centuries.

Boris Eliozovich Chochiev was born on November1, 1957 in the Styrkom village of the Tskhinval district of South Ossetia. In 1982 he graduated from the biological faculty of the South Ossetian State Pedagogical Institute. He worked in the structures of the Komsomol (1980-1986), then in the apparatus of the South Ossetian regional committee of the Communist Party of Georgia (1986-1991). In 1991-1992 he worked in the Committee on Ethnic Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia (since 1993-the Committee on Nationalities and Migration): in October-December 1991 – a leading specialist, in December 1991 – May 1992 deputy Chairman, in May 1992 – April 2001 – Chairman. 1993-2001, at the same time,- a member of the Joint Control Commission for the Settlement of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict (JCC) from the South Ossetian side. April 2001-November 2003-Minister for Special Assignments of the Republic of South Ossetia. November 2003 – November 2008 – Minister for Special Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia. From December 31, 2005 to August 18, 2008, at the same time – First Deputy Chairman of the Republic of South Ossetia. August 8, 2008 – October 2008 – Acting Prime Minister. From November 2008 to April 2012 – Plenipotentiary of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia on the issues of post-conflict settlement. Since April 2012 – Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia.
