Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

Murat Dzhioev, the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia on post-conflict settlement, and Kazbulat Tskhovrebov, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, hosted a meeting with Alexey Dvinyanin, Nikita Zhukov and Marat Kulakhmetov, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and members of Russian delegation on the Geneva International Discussions, on May 28, 2015.

Current situation on South Ossetia – Georgia border, including in Leningor district, future of the Geneva negotiating format were discussed.

As both sides outlined, a speedy settlement of the problems connected with demarcation of the border and the frontier crossing would be equitable to the interest of local population. Once again was noted the importance of signing a bilateral legally binding document on non-use of force between the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia to maintain security in the region. This problem is becoming more and more urgent in a sign of establishing deep military cooperation between Georgia, NATO and certain members of the alliance that menaces with the stability in the region. Due to the fact that a vote on the politicized Georgian draft resolution on refugees is expected to be hold at the coming session of the UN General Assembly in June, the participants of the meeting outlined it destructive orientation that interferes with successful solution of humanitarian problems in Geneva.

South Ossetia-Russian consultations confirmed the close-allied relations established between the two states and the will to coordinate in every possible way joint efforts among the international community.
