20th May is a Memory and Mourning Day in South Ossetia. On this day in 1992 Georgian extremist shot down a group a refugees from South Ossetia on a bypassing road near village Zar. Among them were mainly children, women and elderly. 33 people were killed, aged between 11 to 72 years, 16 were injured.
Every year at that very place in village Zar, at the ‘Mourning mother’ memorial, is carried out a mourning ceremony.
