On 26 August 2013 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of South Ossetia David Sanakoev had a meeting with the Secretary General-Head of Secretariat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nagorny Karabakh Republic Semen Afiyan, who arrived to the Republic as a member of the NKR delegation for celebrations of the 5th anniversary since recognition of the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia by Russian Federation. At the meeting participated the Ombudsmen Inal Tasoev.

On 26 August Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of South Ossetia David Sanakoev received the President of Prodnestrovian Moldavian Republic Eugeny Shevchuk and Minister of Foreign Affairs of PMR Nina Shtansky, that are in Republic of South Ossetia with an official visit on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of since recognition of State Independence of South Ossetia.

During decades Georgia was aiming to assert its rule over South Ossetia, using everything for suppression, including ethnic cleansing and direct genocide. Establishment of a sovereign State was the only way for people of South Ossetia to protect their right for life, freedom and human dignity under permanent threat of war from Georgia.

On the fifth anniversary since recognition of the independence of South Ossetia by Russian Federation

- 26 August is the fifth anniversary since recognition by Russia sovereignty of South Ossetia. In that sense 2013 is a special year for South Ossetia. What meaning has this strong-willed decision of Russia for people of South Ossetia?

On 20 August 2013 the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Republic of South Ossetia in Republic of Abkhazia Mr. Oleg Botsiev handed in letters of credence to the President of Republic of Abkhazia Mr. Alexander Ankvab.

Alexander Ankvab congratulated Oleg Botsiev with his appointment and wished him success in his service. Oleg Botsiev assured to make every effort to strengthen relations between people of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

 

Tskhinval, 20 August 2013

 

On 16 August 2013 Minister of Foreign Affairs David Sanakoev met with students of Moscow State Institute of International Relations sent for studies from South Ossetia.

David Sanakoev congratulated the students with successful hand over of the exams and thanked them for their good learning performance. The students shared their impressions about the University, told about themselves, their hobbies, problems and plans for future.

On 10 August 2013 police vehicle of the MIA crossed State border of the RSO from territory bordering with Georgia in village Artsev, Tskhinval region. The vehicle ignored numerous requests to leave territory of South Ossetia. Border guards of the RSO KGB border service had to make a warning shot into the air, only after that the trespassers returned to territory of Georgia. The incident was observed by EU Mission monitors.

Unfortunately, this is not the only provocative incident when representatives of Georgian armed forces try to violate border of Republic of South Ossetia.

On 9 August 2013 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of South Ossetia had a meeting with a delegation from Italy headed by the President of Italy-South Ossetia Friendship Society, Professor Mauro Murgia. The meeting was carried out at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Upon greeting the guests, David Sanakoev noted that contacts with representatives of Italy are of great importance for South Ossetia. He hoped that those contacts will be extending and strengthening and will help the Republic to overcome the international isolation.

Commemoration of the fifth anniversary of Georgian aggression against Republic of South Ossetia took place at the Official Representation of Republic of South Ossetia in Pridnestrovie during the night of 8 August 2013. Head of the RSO Representation in Pridnestrovie Sergey Sugaro, his colleagues and residents of Tiraspol gathered together, despite the late hour, to remember peaceful residents and defenders of Tskhinval who passed away in August 2008 .

On 7-8 August 2013 Republic of South Ossetia commemorated fifth anniversary of the armed aggression of Georgia against Republic of South Ossetia.

On 7 August a mourning ceremony ‘Living light of memory’ started at 23:35- exactly at this point in time in August 2008 sleeping Tskhinval was first bombed. The offensive and irresponsible decision of M. Saakashvili and the Georgian leadership brought death and wounds to thousands of people, including Russian and Ossetian peacekeepers. In the memory of those who died was carried a payer service at the church of Virgin Mary in Tskhinval.

In connection with the fifth anniversary of the aggression of Georgia against RSO

South Ossetia is existing as an independent states during 22 years. During this period people of South Ossetia suffered three bloody wars unleashed by Georgia. Georgian bandits and regular forces wiped off the earth tens of Ossetian villages, carried out acts of genocide not only in South Ossetia but also on the territory of Georgia.
