On 9 August 2013 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of South Ossetia had a meeting with a delegation from Italy headed by the President of Italy-South Ossetia Friendship Society, Professor Mauro Murgia. The meeting was carried out at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Upon greeting the guests, David Sanakoev noted that contacts with representatives of Italy are of great importance for South Ossetia. He hoped that those contacts will be extending and strengthening and will help the Republic to overcome the international isolation.
Professor Mauro Murgia spoke about activities that are carried out by Friendship Society Italy-South Ossetia to give out true information about the occurrences in South Ossetia.
The meeting participants discussed the cooperation programme between South Ossetia and Italy, that includes cultural, scientific and sports spheres, as interaction in this fields would strengthen relations between Italian and South Ossetian nations.
Italian delegation took an active part at the commemorations devoted to the fifth anniversary of the military aggression of Georgia against South Ossetia.
Mauro Murgia assured the South Ossetian side that despite the counteractions of Georgia and strongest Georgian lobby in Italy, they would continue promoting true information about South Ossetia to strengthen its image in Europe.
In the end of the meeting the Minister thanked the guests for their interest to Republic of South Ossetia.
