27th round of Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia

27th round of Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia took place in Geneva on 25-26 March 2014. At the meeting participated representatives of Republic of South Ossetia, Republic of Abkhazia, Georgia, Russian Federation, United States as well as representatives of EU, UN and OSCE. South Ossetian delegation was headed by Presidential Envoy on post conflict resolution M.K. Jioev.

Agreement on acceptation of Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol into Russian Federation and creation of new subjects within Russian Federation was signed today in Moscow.

South Ossetia welcomes decision on unification of Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol with Russian Federation. This event brought into life realization of the right of self determination of multinational Crimea is a triumph of historic fairness and supremacy of law.

A working meeting between members of South Ossetian delegation to Geneva Discussions, headed by Murat Jioev, Presidential Envoy on post conflict resolution and Co-chairmen of Geneva Discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia from EU, OSCE and UN took place in Tskhinval on 11 March 2014 in anticipation of the forthcoming round of the discussions.

The main subject of the meeting was on preparations to the 27th round of Geneva Discussions planned for 25-26 March 2014.

From 28 February to 3 March Republic of South Ossetia was visited by a delegation from Italy and San Marino headed by President of Friendship Society Italy-South Ossetia, Professor Mauro Murjia.

The delegation was received by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of South Ossetia D.G. Sanakoev. During the meeting it was underlined that extension and strengthening of trade, economic and cultural ties is beneficial for longstanding relations between the sides in the frame of Friendship Society Italy-South Ossetia.

On 28 February acting in charge Minister of foreign Affairs of Republic of South Ossetia D.G. Sanakoev received from the newly appointed Ambassador of Republic of Abkhazia to Republic of South Ossetia A.M. Elbakiev copies of the letters of credence.

D.G. Sanakoev congratulated A.M. Elbakiev with his new appointment and wished him success in extending the bilateral ties.

A.M. Elbakiev expressed readiness to make everything possible for further strengthening off the cooperation between Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Attention of the whole world is attached to the opening of ХХII winter Olympic Games, the opening will take place on 7 February 2014 in Russian Federation, in Sochi Russian Federation as the organizer and of the Olympic Games called on participants of armed conflicts, regardless countries and continents, to declare ‘Olympic ceasefire’ during the Olympic Games.

Even in the ancient Greece during the Olympic Games wars were stopped. This tradition to resolve armed conflicts by diplomatic means was later secured in resolution 48/11 of the UN GA dated 25 November 1993.

On appointment of Elbakiev Alan as an Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Republic of Abkhazia in Republic of South Ossetia

On 30 January Alan Mukharbekovich Elbakiev was appointed as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Republic of Abkhazia in Republic of South Ossetia by Decree of the President of Republic of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab.
