Commemorative events, dedicated to the 18th anniversary of the Beslan tragedy are being held in Ossetia on September 1-3. On September 1, 2004, on the Day of Knowledge, terrorists attacked Beslan school №1 and took pupils, their parents and teachers hostage. As a result of the terrorist attack, unprecedented by its violence, 334 people were killed, including 186 children.

At the invitation from the Beslan Mother’s Committee, a delegation from Italy and San Marino is in Beslan on September 1-3, the anniversary of the bloody terrorist attack. August 26 is the day of recognition of the state independence of the Republic of South Ossetia by the Russian Federation. The epochal event in the recent history of the Republic, which took place fourteen years ago, was the logical result of the forced longstanding struggle of the people of South Ossetia against permanent aggression by Georgia, victims of which were thousands of defenders and civilians of South Ossetia, while more than a hundred thousand Ossetians became refugees.
August 25 saw the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Akhsar Dzhioev hosting a meeting with Alan Pliev, Head of the Official Representation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in the Republic of South Ossetia.
Alan Pliev congratulated Akhsar Dzhioev with the appointment to a high position and wished the Minister success at the new responsible post.

Under the Decree by the President of the Republic of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev, dated August 15, 2022, Akhsar Dzhioev was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia.
Background:
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the South Ossetian Autonomous Region. The national-territorial entity of the southern part of Ossetia was formed in Soviet times by a separate Decree dated April 20, 1922. The adoption of this document was inextricably linked to previous events – the bloody struggle of the Ossetian nation against Georgia for the right to a free life and a decent future.
