On 1 October, a meeting was held in Moscow between Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Akhsar Dzhioev and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.
During the talks, the heads of the two foreign ministries discussed current matters of bilateral interaction, the further improvement of foreign policy coordination, and the main avenues of cooperation on regional and international issues, including participation in the International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia.
Akhsar Dzhioev conveyed greetings on behalf of President of the Republic of South Ossetia Marat Kambolov. The Acting Minister expressed sincere gratitude to the Russian side for its support in addressing the socio-economic challenges facing the Republic of South Ossetia. He noted that there was considerable potential for further deepening integration processes, advancing the Republic's economic development, promoting its positions on the international stage and strengthening peace and stability.
Sergey Lavrov noted that bilateral meetings following the celebration of commemorative dates in South Ossetia had become a tradition, and stressed that early presidential elections had been held in South Ossetia on 18 September, their legitimacy and lawfulness confirmed by numerous international observers. The Russian Foreign Minister expressed appreciation to South Ossetia for its assistance in organising voting in the State Duma elections for Russian citizens residing in the republic, and gratitude to the South Ossetian people for their support of the special military operation, the participation of its citizens in combat operations and humanitarian assistance.
During the conversation, the parties confirmed their mutual readiness to step up joint work on the systematic expansion of bilateral cooperation.
The meeting was attended by A. Tskhovrebov, First Deputy Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, Z. Gassiev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Ossetia to the Russian Federation, and O. Kadzhaeva, Head of the State Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia.
