On the 18th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation

On 17 September 2008, the Presidents of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation signed the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance, which launched a new stage in the development of bilateral relations.

This document laid a solid foundation for the current stage of interstate dialogue, opening broad opportunities for building up practical interaction in all key spheres.

The basic principles recorded in 2008 received their logical continuation and development in the Treaty on Alliance and Integration of 18 March 2015, as well as in the Treaty on the Deepening of Allied Interaction of 9 May 2026. These documents fully reflect the centuries-old traditions of friendship and good-neighbourliness of our peoples and serve as a reliable legal basis for the progressive strengthening of bilateral ties.

To date, a regulatory framework has been formed, comprising dozens of joint documents that ensure effective regulation of comprehensive strategic partnership and integration processes.

The signing of the Treaty secured for the Russian Federation the status of the main guarantor of the security of the Republic of South Ossetia and its peaceful development, and fully meets the national interests of the peoples of both states and the maintenance of stability in the region.
